Step 2 — Coordination With Your Technology Supplier P: We contact your robotic milking, ventilation or equipment supplier directly to review their installation requirements — footprint, electrical specs, plumbing connections, structural requirements, and installation sequence. We build those requirements into our construction schedule before work begins.

Step 3 — Permits Where Required P: Significant structural modifications and electrical upgrades to farm buildings typically require building permits. We assess what requires permits, manage the applications, and ensure the work is inspected correctly — protecting you from compliance issues down the road.

Step 4 — Coordinated Construction P: All trades sequenced and managed by LUMA — structural first, then mechanical rough-ins, then concrete, then finishing — in the correct order. Regular communication with you and your technology supplier throughout so everyone knows what's happening and when.

Timeline depends on the scope of modifications required. A straightforward preparation for one to two robots in an existing freestall barn typically takes 4–8 weeks of construction work. More extensive renovations involving significant stall reconfigurations, new alley systems or major electrical upgrades can take 8–16 weeks. We build the schedule around your operation's seasonal requirements where possible.

Q: Is it worth upgrading an aging barn or should I build new?

It depends on the structural condition of the existing building and the cost of the required upgrades relative to new construction. We assess existing buildings honestly — if the structure is sound and the upgrade cost is significantly less than new construction, upgrading makes sense.
